What this is
One Million Tiny Creatures is a digital entertainment experience. You pay $1 once, and we reveal and assign you one unique tiny digital creature within this project, along with a public page for it and shareable, printable images. By buying a creature you agree to these terms.
Entirely digital. Nothing will be shipped.
This deserves its own heading, because it is the single most important thing to understand before you pay: your creature is a digital product, delivered instantly on screen, and nothing physical will ever be sent to you.
- No physical card will be delivered. The “card” is an image file. The “printable card” in your receipt is a page you may print at home, on your own printer, with your own paper. We do not print, pack, post, or ship anything, to anywhere, ever.
- No plush toy, figurine, sticker, poster or certificate will arrive in the mail.
- We collect a billing country (and sometimes an address) because payment processing and tax law require it — not because anything will be delivered there.
- Delivery is complete the moment your creature is revealed and its page exists. That normally happens within seconds of payment.
What you get
- One creature, recorded against your purchase, with its own creature number out of 1,000,000.
- A public web page for that creature, for as long as the project runs.
- The ability to name it, and to change that name a limited number of times.
- A private link, sent by email, that returns you to your creature.
- Downloadable images of your creature for personal and social use.
- A certificate of authenticity: a cryptographic signature unique to your creature, printed in full on your receipt, with a scannable code for verifying it.
- A receipt as a PDF, including a printable card of your creature.
What you do not get
This is deliberately explicit, because we would rather under-promise than mislead:
- No physical goods, as set out above. Nothing ships. If any statement anywhere — a screenshot, a social post, a third-party listing — suggests a physical card will be delivered, that statement is not ours and is wrong.
- No transfer of intellectual property. We keep the copyright in the artwork and the generation system. You get a personal, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display, share and print your creature's image for personal, non-commercial use. Commercial use needs our written permission.
- No blockchain, token, coin or wallet. There is none anywhere in this product.
- No investment, and no monetary value. Your creature is not a financial product, is not resellable through us, and should not be bought in the expectation of any return. We operate no marketplace and will not value, buy back or exchange creatures.
- No exclusivity of traits. Creature numbers are unique. Species, colours and other traits are not — other creatures will share some of them.
- No companionship, luck, utility or services. Your creature is a picture with a page. It does not do anything, and it is not supposed to.
Rarity
Each creature has a rarity, derived from its creature number before any payment is made. Rarity is descriptive. There is no paid chance mechanism, no way to influence what you receive, and nothing to win. The odds we publish are calculated from the actual generation weights. Buying more creatures does not improve any odds, and we encourage you not to treat it as if it did.
The one million limit
At most 1,000,000 creatures will ever be created. This limit is enforced by our database, not by a promise. Once it is reached, new purchases stop. If a payment somehow completes after the limit is reached, we will refund it in full.
Payment and tax
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. Where tax applies to your purchase it is calculated at checkout and shown on your receipt; the receipt is a PDF you download, not a document we post to you. Prices may change for future purchases; a change never affects a creature already bought.
Certificates and verification
Every creature carries a signature that proves it is genuine and unaltered. The full signature — and the scannable code that carries it — is issued to the buyer and is the buyer's to keep private: whoever holds it can present it as proof of holding your certificate. Public pages show a redacted form. We are not responsible for what happens if you publish your full signature yourself.
Naming
Names are public. We may remove or change a name that is abusive, hateful, sexual, impersonates a person or organisation, or is otherwise unlawful, and we may do so without notice. Repeated abuse may mean losing the ability to rename.
Acceptable use
Please do not: attempt to buy creatures with stolen payment details; scrape, overload or attack the service; use automation to hoard creature numbers; or misrepresent creatures, certificates or receipts as something they are not (for example, as physical goods, investments, or tickets to anything). We may refuse or reverse purchases involved in abuse.
Availability
We will make a reasonable effort to keep creature pages online, but this is a small project and we do not promise perpetual availability. Pages may be briefly unavailable during maintenance or outages. If we ever have to shut the project down, we will give notice and make creature data available for download where we reasonably can.
Your account
There is no password. Your private link is a credential — anyone who has it can rename your creature. Keep the email safe. We can reissue a link to the email address used at purchase.
Feelings, disappointment, and emotional damage
We made this project to be delightful, and we genuinely hope your creature delights you. But we must be plain about the limits of a $1 digital toy:
- To the maximum extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for emotional damage or emotional distress of any kind arising from this product — including disappointment with your creature's species, traits, colours, rarity, name or appearance; attachment to a creature; envy of somebody else's creature; reactions of friends, family or strangers to your creature; or sadness if the project ends.
- Your creature is assigned by a deterministic generator. It is not a message, an omen, a judgement of you, or a personality test. If you receive a Blob, it means the generator produced a Blob.
- Your creature cannot love you back. We are sorry, and we are also not liable for it.
- Nothing in this product is medical, psychological, financial or life advice, and it is no substitute for any of those.
Disclaimer and liability
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind beyond those that cannot be excluded by law. To the extent permitted by law: we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, for loss of data, or for emotional distress as set out above; and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law — including your statutory consumer rights, and liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Refunds
Refunds have their own page, written in the same plain language. In short: if something went wrong, we refund; if you simply wished for a different creature, we usually do not — but the creature stays yours either way.
Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be noted on this page with a new date. Changes never retroactively remove a creature that has already been assigned to someone, and never turn this into something that ships physical goods without saying so very loudly.
